A Healthy Glass of Wine
One of the most requested wines from our guests in recent weeks has been Cannonau. Cannonau?? Yes apparently our friend Dr.Oz had Dan Buettner, author of "The Blue Zone" on his show. Mr. Buettner explained to Dr.Oz that the best wine on the planet for longevity is Cannonau. The magic comes from the wine's antioxidants. The dark skin and seeds of the grapes are rich in polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that includes resveratrol.
But why specifically Cannonau? Cannonau {aka Grenache} is a red grape that grows on the island of Sardinia. People of Sardinia who drink the wine made from Cannonau are 10 times more likely to live to 100. Research by Buettner in conjunction with National Geographic determined that Cannonau has one of the highest concentrations of polyphenols in the world.
So you're looking for a good Cannonau for dinner tonight? Brand new to our stores is Santa Maria La Palma Le Bombarde Cannonau.Le Bombarde is the name of a well know beach near the wineries vineyards.Sorry I don't have any pictures of the beaches in Sardinia as I have never been there...hint,hint.
The wine itself looks to be another winner from superstar Italian importer, Nadia Galati. The Edmonton Journal just nailed the review as follows. "Expressive aromas of juicy raspberry, crushed floral notes, licorice, clove and other exotic spice with penetrating flavors of plum, cherry, spice earth and leather, and a silky, lingering ,vibrant finish. This isn't heavy wine, but it has tons of flavor and a misleading underlying structure. The perfect example of a sophisticated, easy-drinking wine that doesn't have to be in your face to be great."
