Coral do Mar Albariño

Coral albarino

Just when you think that we couldn't possibly find any more exciting wines to add to our already burgeoning Direct-To-You portfolio, we've managed to procure yet another hidden Spanish gem!  In the nick of time for the holidays, too; destined perhaps to accompany a sizzling platter of succulent shrimp scampi (with sautéed garlic, fresh parsley and just a faint squeeze of lemon, please).

And if you're a fan of food-friendly white wines with plenty of personality and a sense of place to boot, this next one is sure to tempt your taste buds and pique your palate!

Our newest arrival is from Galicia, Spain (that would be to the immediate north of Portugal, along the Atlantic coast).  It's the part of Spain where the sun barely shines but the weather's plenty fine for a crispy white wine to pair with something...sublime!

(Hmmm...I don't know that tune, but if you hum a few bars...) :-D

The wine I'm referring to is Coral do Mar Albariño, a single vineyard, estate bottled Albariño produced by Bodegas y Vinedos Veiga da Princesa within the denominaćion of Rias Baixas.  And at a fair price of $13.99 a bottle at your local ABCFWS store, it's a super value.

Rias Baixas is home to this unique indigenous Galician grape vine, planted on granitic soils and trellised in traditional pergolas to allow for phenolic ripeness within the grape clusters.  In this less-than-ideal climate (it rains here often), this positioning of the vines is critical; placed above the height of an average human being, allowing the nearby sea breezes to freely circulate though the vineyards and maintain healthy fruit.

This wine has beautiful citrus, floral and mineral aromas and flavors, with crisp, vibrant acidity inviting you back for another mouthwatering sip!  Try this lively white with tapas, soft white cheeses, chicken or shellfish.
