Perfect Summertime Wine, Nadia Bianco

It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to introduce a new Italian wine to you. Trust me it's not for lack of trying, but we only have so much room for new wines on our shelves. Our newest addition comes to us just in time for Florida's long, hot summer season.

I think I'm in the minority here, but I actually enjoy summertime in Florida. Less traffic, cheaper greens fees and warm ocean water on uncrowded beaches. Of course, when I reach for a glass of wine this time of year I usually gravitate towards something light, crisp, refreshing and well-priced. And voila! Along comes the perfect wine, Nadia Bianco.

Nadia BiancoNadia Bianco is the brainchild of importer Nadia Galati and one of the best winemakers in the Soave region, Sisto Tessari of the La Cappuccina Winery. Those who are familiar with La Cappuccina know they are pioneers in producing wines made from organically grown grapes. Anyone looking for a more in depth look at La Cappuccina should check out the article on page 14 of our most recent ABC Wine Journal.

I have long been a huge fan of the Soave produced at La Cappuccina--complex, minerally wines with aromas of golden delicious apples and almonds. With Nadia Bianco, Sisto uses the same organically grown Garganega grapes but then blends in 20% Sauvignon Blanc. The resulting wine has all the characteristics of good Soave with a little extra zing from the Sauvignon.

If you decide to bring home a bottle of Nadia Bianco to enjoy at the beach or around the pool this weekend, I suggest you buy more than one...it won't last long.
