Another winner from Giorgi
All our loyal wine country readers know I recently returned from a trip to Italy. In my May 16th entry I wrote about an exciting new wine from the Giorgi Family Estate, Costarosa Sangue di Guida. Coastarosa has quickly become one of our most popular wines, appealing to both the novice as well as the more sophisticated wine drinker.
As previously discussed, the Giorgi Family Estate owns 75 hectares of vines on some of the best terrior in Oltrepo Pavese. While the majority of Giorgi's vineyards are planted to high quality pinot noir, you can also find barbera, bonarda, croatina, vespolina, riesling and malvasia. I have to admit that I never thought of buying a nice bottle of malvasia to take home tonight, but leave it to Giorgi and one of our favorite Italian importers, Nadia Galati, to change my mind.
Malvasia can produce a wide variety of styles ranging from very dry to very sweet. In any form the wines have aromas of pears, white peach and tropical fruit flavors. The Nadia Malvasia is made in a slightly sweet style with plenty of exotic fruit aromas and a slight effervescence. The low alcohol, 7%, makes this delightful wine perfect for enjoying on the beach or poolside.
