Tasting: 2010 Provence and Cotes du Rhone

Vineyards in the Rhone Valley

The 2010 vintage in Provence and Cȏtes du Rhône rivals in quality the 2009 and in many cases, surpasses it. The  2010 reds I have tasted to date exhibit beautiful deep ruby color with purple shades, good structure and aromas and flavors of lavender, fresh strawberries and fresh raspberries.

The five different 2010 rosés I have tasted so far, all exhibit a stronger than usual, very lovely blue flower (lavender) component which shows in the color (a brighter, more lavender tint to the salmon-pink) as well as the aromatics.

 2010 Provence roses

We currently offer two new 2010 rosés from Provence: Domaine de Frégate, Bandol rosé 2010 ($16.99) Château du Galoupet, Cȏtes de Provence rosé 2010 ($14.99)

Quantities are very limited; shop early...Both wines are elegant, fruity and refreshing and are great match for summertime specials like pasta dishes, sea food, grilled fish and mixed salads.

Try them with your favorite barbeque.

Two more Provence roses 2010, Château Montaud and Moncigale, will be available in the next week or so.

Santé!
