Domaine Champy on the Rise--the New Organic Approach to Viticulture in Burgundy

ChampyChampy
is a small, passionate, family-run business. The company’s principle is not to grow significantly, but to consistently produce artisanal wines with continued supply. The grapes for Champy wines come from two sources. The domaine consists of 28 hectares (acquired since 1990), all located in the Côte de Beaune. Other appellations are sourced by long standing contracts with viticulturists (where grapes are purchased, mainly from the Côte de Nuits). The estate produces approximately 40% white and 60% red wine.

Champy’s commitment to the environment means that all treatments in the domaine’s vineyards are organic and biodynamic. The vineyard tasks are based around the cycles of the moon, and no pesticides or herbicides are used. Champy is moving into an exciting new phase as the vineyards are currently going through a process of organic certification.

The winemaking techniques are non-interventionist (to maximize what nature has provided) and are adapted to the particular vintage in question. Harvest is 100% conducted and sorted by hand.
