Pouilly-Fuisse: 2009 Marechal review

Marechal Pouilly Fuisse 2009

Marechal Pouilly Fuissé has been a favorite white for many years; it is one of the best values in the appellation.

The vineyards are located on steep slopes on clay-chalk Jurassic soils. The grapes are hand harvested which allows a rigorous grape selection. The wine is then vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks and aged for 4 months in 4-5 years old oak barrels.

I was looking forward to tasting the new 2009 vintage of this wine; 2009 is one of the best vintages on record in France in general, and Burgundy in particular.

The 2009 Marechal Pouilly Fuissé, 100% Chardonnay, exhibits aromas and flavors of white flowers, orange blossom, Meyer lemon and ripe citrus. The wine is rich and generous with just the right amount of acidity to balance the ripe fruit perfectly and underline the lovely minerality. This wine will be perfect accompaniment to sea food, grilled fish and white meats.
