The Italian Wine Masters

For anyone who makes a living selling wine it is important to constantly continue our education. Today's world moves much too quickly to rely on what we may have learned in the past and believe it is still pertinent.

When I discovered that a tasting of more than 100 Italian producers as well as master classes led by renowned wine educator and author Kevin Zraly was taking place in Miami, I quickly scheduled it into my work week.

Kevin Zraly is the consummate wine teacher. I still own one of the first editions of his book, Windows on the World, Complete Wine Course. Today you can find the 25th anniversary edition of his book in stores. I still find his book to be a must-have for anyone who wants to get a great foundation to build upon.

Mr. Zraly taught two seminars, one on Prosecco and the other on the red wines of Tuscany.  The classes were both informative and fun. His enthusiasm and non-intimidating style in the class room made for a very enjoyable afternoon. It is easy to see why Robert Parker calls him,"...the finest wine educator I have known."

Perhaps even more informative was being able to speak with all the producers that were presenting their wines at the event. I think most wine makers love to present their wines to the public. Like a parent showing off their newborn, they have a passion and devotion to their wine that is hard to match.

You may be asking, how do I get invited to an event where I can speak to the actual winemaker or owner of an estate? Well, you're in luck. One of our suppliers, Nadia Galati, has organized a tour with many of her Italian estates. They will arrive in Miami on March 1st and then do tastings over the next four days. They will be in Sunrise on March 2nd, Vero Beach on the 3rd, Palm Coast on the 4th and St Pete on the 5th before returning to Italy. This same group of winemakers has toured our stores in the past and I assure you they will make it a fun and informative evening for all.
