Looking for a sparkling celebration? Cave de Saumur delivers
The Prince Alexander, Crémant de Loire Brut and Rosé Brut are back in stock in time for the end-of-year celebrations.
Our ABC wine team visited the producers at the Cave de Saumur in the month of June this year. Re-tasting the two sparkling wines confirmed what we already knew: they are of unmatched quality for the price ($12.99).
The Brut is 70% Chenin Blanc, 15% Chardonnay and 15% Cabernet Franc with complex flavors of ripe citrus, green apple and spice, full effervescence and long finish.
The Brut Rosé, 100% Cabernet Franc is a multi-layered wine with aromas and flavors of black cherries, strawberries and spring flowers; it is great served as aperitif and will also pair well with roasted red meats.
The sparkling wines of Saumur are produced in the “traditional method," which is the process used in the Champagne region of France, where the second fermentation takes place in the same bottle the wine is sold in, opposed to the “Charmat method” in which the wine undergoes the second fermentation in bulk tanks (Prosecco).
If high quality, inexpensive bubbly is on your list for entertaining guests or everyday consumption, don’t miss the opportunity to check out Prince Alexander Brut and Brut Rosé Crémant de Loire.
