Around the world in beer: China's Tsingtao

I have one more stop in Asia on my world tour of beers in Quingdao, China, at Tsingtao Brewery LTD to sample Tsingtao adjunct lager.  Some fun facts from their website state they have been around since 1903.  They are the number one consumer product export out of China.  Since their debut in the US in 1972, they have become the number one selling Chinese beer.

Appearance:  I am serving this well chilled in my Kirin Ichiban glass.  A smooth pour produces a snow white head and a bright lemony color.

Smell: It is interesting with hints of rose petals and other floral notes.  I keep getting hotdogs, must be me.

Taste: Smooth as all get up.  Watered down lemonade flavor up front, not artificial, almost like a shandy.  Minimal hopping keeps the malt in check.  Not overpowering at all and ideal paired with Chinese food.

From my tour of Asia, I have gathered that Asian beer is made to be drunk passively with any Asian cuisine.  They are very light on the palate and remain sessionable.  No need for beech wood aging here.  It is not to generalize, saying all Asian beer is bland and banal.  In fact, I had a phenomenal white ale called Hitachino Nest White Ale out of Japan with the most unique coriander heavy flavors I have had in a white ale.  You can find Tsingtao along with Tsingtao Pure Draft in most ABCs.
