Highly recommended: two new Burgundies from Maison Champy
2009 will remain in history as one of Burgundy’s best vintages ever. The Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines from 2009 should be cellared for extended aging from 5 up to 10 years and more for the best examples.
Here are the tasting notes for two new 2009 Red Burgundies from Maison Champy available at select ABC Fine Wine & Spirits stores:
The 2009 Savigny les Beaune, Aux Fourches is a 3.5 acres estate vineyard, rich in deep clay soil. The wine has saturated ruby color and aromas and flavors of dark fruit, crème de cassis and spice; full-bodied and powerful with solid tannins and assertive finish, this wine is a bargain at $32.99. Drink or hold.
Two thumbs up as well for the 100% estate and organic Volnay Premier Cru Les Taillepieds 2009. This vineyard has only 10cm of top soil followed by pure limestone. The 2.2 acres plot yielded only 2.1 tons/acre in 2009 and the wine was made at 40 hectoliter/hectare This is a wine of great concentration and purity; the black cherry fruit is persistent throughout and the finish is never-ending. Offered at $62.99. Drink or hold.
