The Three Little Pigs Are Coming!
Am I really writing to tell you about a new line of Italian wines with a pig as a mascot? Well sort of...
You see, Pigro is a piglet; yes that's right, a piglet, but no ordinary pig. Pigro is a joint project with renowned winemaker Stefano Moccagatta and importer Giulio Galli. Stefano is the winemaker of Otto Soldi Gavi and Giulio imports some of the finest wines in our Italian portfolio. Together these two wine maestros envisioned a new line of Italian wines presented in a lively and contemporary package to appeal to the millennial generation. It is the quality of the wine, however, not the label that is most important to these two gentlemen.
We currently have three of the Pigro wines, Pinot Grigio, Montepulcino and a red blend in our stores. It's the red blend, Pigro Rosso ($9.99) that I would like to introduce to you first.
Pigro Rosso comes to us from the Umbria region of Italy. One of Umbria's best know and appreciated wines is the white wine Orvieto. What is not widely known is that Umbria has become one of Italy's best regions for the production of high quality Cabernet and Merlot. This is where the grapes for Pigro Rosso were sourced.
Pigro Rosso is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Sangiovese. It has a deep ruby color along with an intense fruit forward nose of cherry, blackberry and black currant. At $9.99 a bottle, this wine will have you squealing for more.
