All about the Rhone

While visiting Domaine Durand in the northern part of the Rhône Valley in May, we journeyed up the hill-side of the terraced vineyards of Cornas and St. Joseph.  Not only was this a beautiful and majestic ascent, but you were able to see, smell and feel all that goes into the making of a fine wine.  Truly, the definition of terroir.

We were able to sample 2 of the 2010 vintage of Cornas and St Joseph, 100% Syrah wines.  Absolutely stunning wines, and yes, being right there and drinking these wines did have something to do with our judgment!

This month, June, we are featuring the Domaine Durand 2009 St. Joseph “Lautaret” that was given a 93 rating by the Wine Spectator.  It offers a velvety feel from the start with fleshy blackberry and mulled plum fruit flavors woven with bittersweet cocoa, licorice and roasted alder wood notes.  What a great red to drink now or will hold for at least 5 years! (Featured this month at $27.99; regular price $32.99)
